A training seminar was held 17-19 April 2014 at Samarkand State University in honor of the 620th anniversary of the great astronomer, statesman and public figure Ulugbek.
This training workshop organized by the Ulugh Beg Astronomical Institute (UBAI), Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan jointly with the Samarkand State University named after Alisher Navoi (SSU).
It should be noted that organizing of this annual seminar becomes a tradition for our institute. In honor of the 620th anniversary of the Ulugbek was
decided to hold the sixth training seminar in the city where he lived and worked, i.e. in Samarkand.
Participants in the training were undergraduate and graduate students of higher educational institutions, such as Nukus State Pedagogical University, Kokand State Pedagogical Institute,
Jizzakh Pedagogical Institute, Karshi State University and Samarkand State University, as well as students and teachers of academic lyceums and professional colleges of Samarkand.
At the opening of the seminar professor U.N.Tashkenbaev, the SSU Rector and professor Sh.A.Egamberdiev UBAI director have welcomed the participants.
Lectures were given by leading experts and young researchers of UBAI on astronomy, astrophysics (theoretical and applied), classes were conducted
on data processing, as well as to familiarize the students with the latest news in the field of astronomy.
In addition to the lectures and training classes, April 18, all participants of the training participated in night-time observations at the 48 cm Grubb Parsons telescope
which is located at the scientific and educational center of Astronomy at SSU. For many of them this event was the first time in their life where they could see
planets Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and the Moon. A CCD camera images were taken by participants. These night-time observations became one of the memorable moments of
these potential future astronomers and they gain impetus to continue exploring the mysteries of our Universe.
At the official closing of the training seminar the participants were awarded certificates.
